German Egyptian Research Long-Term Scholarship Program (GERLS)

Open Call	Young scientists and researchers who wish to complete a doctoral degree in Germany or carry out research there over a longer period of time.

Types of grants	The programme is aimed at highly-qualified doctoral candidates.
Duration of the funding	· Full PhD Scholarships: up to 42 months · “Channel” scholarships: up to 24 months Value 1. Monthly scholarship payments of 1,000 euros for doctoral candidates 2. Payments towards health, accident and personal liability insurance cover 3. Travel allowance 4. Prior to the programme, a language course in Egypt, a series of preparatory modules and intercultural training 5. Prior to the programme, language course in Germany lasting up to 6 months
Required Documents	Students applying for a GERLS scholarship (Channel or full PhD) must have completed a Master’s degree by the application deadline The degree should have been completed no longer than three years before the time of application Applicants listed under the category of University/ Research staff members have to fulfill the eligibility criteria of the Mission department. at least TOEFL ITP 550, IBT 80 or IELTS certificate, at least band 6.0. FYI: Knowledge of German is not compulsory at the time of application.
